ZAVEN  DOLABJIAN

 Renowned Doctor, PhD in Medical Sciences, Professor of Medicine, highly-esteemed Cardiologist, Scientist, Writer, Public Figure Zaven Dolabjian was born on 16 October 1928 in Alexandria (Egypt). The family was among the first wave of the Armenians who repatriated to Soviet Armenia in 1947. In 1953, he graduated from the Yerevan State Medical University. From 1961 to 1981, he acted as the Head of the Chair for the Yerevan Research Center of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. From 1966 to 1979, he was a Deputy in the Armenia SSR Supreme Council, and from 1972 to 1980, a member of the Armenia SSR Supreme Soviet Presidency. He was on close terms with the Catholicos Vazgen I, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the ASSR Anton Kochinyan, and Karen Serob Demirchyan. Dolabjian is the author of around 245 cardiology-related medical articles, textbooks, and monographs. He published books of expertise, two of which were translated into English and one into Arabic. He chaired the International Congress on Electrocardiology in Yerevan in 1973 as well as several international conferences in Moscow, Poland, and elsewhere. Professor Dolabjian’s scientific contributions encompass various aspects of myocardial infarction, hypertensive disease, heart failure, electrocardio-logy, and comparative electrocardiography. Zaven Dolabjian was not only a renowned doctor but also a prolific writer. In 1973, he published his first book of poetic stories titled “Silent Bells” followed by his second book, “Calm Winds” in 1976. In 1980, he published “The Memoirs of a Doctor,” a collection of autobiographical episodes dedicated to Armenian medicine and portraying the people whose hearts he once healed. To reunite with his family. Zaven Dolabjian settled in the United States in 1982 and enjoyed great recognition as a distinguished cardiologist in American medical circles. He was affiliated with the UCLA School of Medicine, and Cedars Sinai Medical Center as a professor, lecturer, and practicing cardiologist. Zaven Dolabjian and his wife, Sylvia Balian-Dolabjian (1934) have two children: Anna (1957, currently resides in Cairo, Egypt) and Roberto (1960, currently resides in Los Angeles, California). The cardiologist Zaven Dolabjian passed away on 9 October 1983 at the age of 54 in LA, CA.
