SIROUHI BELLORIAN
The first Armenian female lawyer in the Armenian community of Argentina Doctor of Juridical Science
In 1924, the Bellorian family migrated from Greece to Buenos Aires. Sirouhi decided to become a law professional. At the age of 18, she entered the Law University of Buenos Aires and was awarded a degree in law. In 1949, Sirouhi Bellorian became the first female lawyer in the Armenian community of Argentina. Her three children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren are enormously proud of this exceptional Armenian woman. She was a famous lawyer in Argentina. For almost 60 years, she constantly advocated for the rights of people. Also, she held scientific conferences and gave lectures on the topics of civil and family law:Sirouhi Bellorian, a worthy daughter of Hadjin, ranged among the most prominent descendants of Hadjin in the Armenian community of Argentina and bore all the virtues of her heroic people. She was Armenian, Greek, and Argentinian at the time but considered herself a true native of Hadjin and proudly bore her surname – Bellorian. She had been to Armenia many times and also visited Nor Hadjin and the Museum. She was a member of the ‘Hadjin Dun’ (‘Hadjin House’) operating in Buenos Aires. Also, in her capacity as the Chairperson of the International Committee of Hadjin Natives, she collaborated with the Armenian Center of Argentina and was a co-founder of the Ateneo Universitario Argentino Armenian Institution. Her marriage to Arshak Piranian, the birth of their three children (Amarilis, Marina, Nodgar), the household chores, and family responsibilities never prevented her from leading an active social life and participating in the events held by the Armenian community. Widowed at a young age, Sirouhi brought up her children in the spirit of high human values, in an environment of love for the homeland. Two of her children and her granddaughter followed her route and became lawyers, and Marina chose the architect’s profession. Marina Piranian-Bellorian has 3 children: Alexia, Estefanía, and Delfina Kalfaian, and grandchildren: Lucrecia, Ignacio, Felipe Negre, and Francisco Calónico. Nodgar Piranian and Maria Avedisian have two children: Alín and Victoria. Sirouhi Bellorian lived 100 years and died on 19 September 2022.
