JOSE LUIS SATDJIAN
Uruguayan politician, vice-Minister of Health of uruguay The grandson of Bedros Satdjian and Heranui Khastayian, both descendants of the Hadjin, and the son of Pedro Satdjian and Alicia Demirdjian, José Luis Satdjian Demirdjian was born on 5 July 1984 in the Cerrito de la Victoria neighborhood of Montevideo and was the oldest son in the family. He has one younger brother, Marcelo (a well established entrepreneur). At the age of five, his family relocated to Brazo Oriental neighborhood where his father owned a butcher’s shop. He initially attended José Artigas Primary School and pursued his high school studies at the Sagrada Familia High School and San Pablo Crandon High School. He holds a Graduate degree in Business Administration at Universidad ORT Uruguay. José Luis Satdjian Demirdjian started his political career together with the actual Minister of Social Development, Martin Lema, and the General Director of the Ministry of Interior, Nicolàs Martinelli. On 11 September 2008, they co-founded the list 404 of Montevideo, with the figure of Luis Lacalle Pou as a candidate for the Senate. From 2007 to 2012 he was a member of the Youth Department Commission of Montevideo (Comisión Departamental de Jóvenes de Montevideo). He established himself as a National Representative from Montevideo during the period 2015-2020 and also acted as a member of the Health and Social Security Commission from the House of Representatives (Comisión de Salud y Seguridad Social de la Cámara de Representantes). During the same period, he served as a Secretary for the Parliamentary sector “Todos, hacia adelante” from the National Pary (“Partido Nacional”). On 2 March 2020, he assumed the position of the Vice Minister of Health. From the very first days of the outbreak of the Covid 19, José Luis Satdjian stood out for operational measures to stop the spread of the pandemic. The effective management of the pandemic, led by the Uruguayan President, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the two main authorities of the health sector, Minister Daniel Salinas and Vice-Minister José Luis Satdjian was acknowledged by the headlines in the prestigious publications (“The Economist”) in the international media and by international societies such as the International Society for Performance Improvement (“Sociedad Internacional para la mejora del desempeño”). He met his wife Florencia during the National Party campaign. Florencia is engaged in the food industry. José Luis Satdjian has one daughter, Cecilia. She is a student at the Department of International Law.
